Business Owners BEWARE!

The fire service in the State has had a number of complaints filed against unlicensed individuals who go ‘door to door’ attempting to sell the customer on services the business may or may not need. Often times they use a fire extinguishing service at the first hook, followed by inspecting emergency lighting, exit lighting or fire sprinkler inspection, to name a few.

Templeton Fire Department personnel do conduct annual business inspections, and at times, require certain corrections to be made to comply with the California Fire Code. Fire Department personnel offer free inspections. However, please be aware that they never do corrections.

If you suspect someone is fraudulently representing themselves or the services they provide, contact the North County Sheriff’s sub-station at 434-4290. If you have any questions or concerns about the fire department’s inspection program or other related issues, do not hesitate to contact the fire department at 434-4911.

How To Avoid Being Ripped Off – Watch Out Situations

  • The service person arrives to service your extinguisher without being contacted by your business.
  • The service person uses the portable fire extinguisher Certificate of Registration as a way to service additional fire protection systems.
  • The service person requests cash for payment
  • The service person does not have ID visibly posted on his body.
  • The service person will not give you an estimate of charges before the work is completed.
  • The service person also wants to inspect your exit lights & panic hardware.
  • Don't let the service person remove any of your fire extinguishers; they belong to you!
  • You don't need to pay someone to conduct quarterly fire sprinkler inspection. You can do it yourself. Contact the fire department.
  • Be sure to ask if the service person has a current County business license.
