PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAM
Templeton
Community Services District-Recycling and Refuse Department
has started a program to gain public awareness and increase
recycling efforts and the proper disposal of trash in our
community. Starting April 1, 2002 you will notice recycle
banners being displayed at local businesses, along with
an increase of recycling trash cans distributed through
out town. Also, to be distributed to local businesses “The
Consumer’s Handbook for Reducing Solid Waste”. This is just
a small part of what Templeton’s CSD is doing to address
the impact of our growing community on the environment and
the protection of our natural resources.
|
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS PROGRAM
Another program taking effect here in the community involves
our local Businesses, Civic Groups, Youth Groups, students
grades K-12 and school sport teams. The importance of this
program is to rid the community of some kind of non-point
source pollution and to teach students hands-on the importance
of protecting their surrounding environment. Ideas for this program include, but are not limited to:
- Adopt-A-Park, Street or Creek
- Making Anti-Litter and Recycling Posters to be displayed
around town and in our school district.
- Distributing reusable mugs and bags at local markets and
Farmers Market.
- Buying and selling recycled products (post-consumer products)
at your business.
- Source Reduction.
If you would like to get involved in the Environmental
Awareness Program, questions or comments please contact
Michelle Costa, Templeton CSD Recycling Coordinator at 434-4900. |

America Recycles Day is
November 15th!
Catch the spirit- RECYCLE! |
Recycled Products Are Everywhere!
Everyone knows that recycled newspaper can be reduced to
pulp and made into new editions. Similar results come from
recycled glass bottles. But there are also several more
interesting products made from our common household recyclables.
Here are just a few of the creative ways America is recycling
its products:
|
Glass bottles recycled into:
- Marbles
- Decorative tiles
- Parts of surfboards
- Roads.
Plastic bottles recycled into:
- Rugs
- Goggles
- Park benches
- Fences
- Lining for ski jackets.
|
Rubber tires recycled into:
- Playground and horse arena surfacing
- Patio tile
- Rubber garden mulch
Despite these efforts, there is more we can all do to use
our resources more efficiently. Reusing an item before sending
it to the recycling bin is also an important strategy in responsible
resource consumption. Use that plastic picnic cutlery more
than once! Use empty plastic water bottles over and over again!
Make a grain scoop or birdfeeder out of that empty milk jug
or plastic coffee can! |
Are you recycling all that you could be?
