TCSD offers a variety of creative conservation education programs. At
the Youth Center, for example, a lesson on responsible
water consumption and titled, “Sunflowers
Use Water Wisely, And So Should We,” involved
not only a teeth brushing demonstration, but
also a visit to the Templeton Community Garden
to learn about different types of sunflowers
and their resistance to drought. A second visit
to the Center in August promoted worm composting
as a way to dispose of kitchen waste, thereby
reducing the amount of water that would otherwise
be used as a result of running the garbage disposal.
All children attending were given the opportunity
to hunt for worms in Costa’s bin and help
assemble a small worm bin for the Youth Center.
